EPA 608 Universal Exam Prep Kit, current to 2026
Why people fail

The 608 is a recall test. This kit gives you the prep to beat it.

It is rarely the mechanics that fail people. It is the dates, percentages, and thresholds, plus four sections that look alike. Here is where it goes wrong, and how the kit fixes each one.

01

Type I, II, and III blur together

The rules read almost the same across appliance types, the number one failure cause. The kit puts each rule next to the system it belongs to.

02

Core gets underestimated

Under-prepare for Core and you fail it, which voids every type you passed. The kit weights Core the way the exam does.

03

Free apps repeat the same 20 questions

Free pools run dry fast and miss the real format. You get 400 original questions in the real 25-per-section structure.

04

Old guides teach rescinded rules

Many guides predate the AIM Act and A2L refrigerants and still print rules that changed. This kit is current to 2026.

See the quality

Every answer cites the rule it comes from.

No guessing whether what you are studying is right. Here is a real question from the free sampler, with the cited explanation.

Why are HFCs like R-410A still regulated even though they have zero ozone depletion potential?
A. Because they contain chlorine
B. They have high global warming potential and are phasing down under the AIM Act CORRECT
C. Because they are flammable
D. They are no longer produced in the US
HFCs have zero ozone depletion potential because they contain no chlorine, but they carry high global warming potential and are phasing down under the AIM Act. This is current 2026 material that older guides miss. (40 CFR Part 84)

Honest fit

Who this is for, and who it is not.

This is for you if

  • You are prepping the Universal (or a single type) and want current, organized material
  • You failed before and need to know your prep is actually right
  • You want to study offline or on paper, no app or subscription
  • You are on a deadline and need structure, not a pile of PDFs

This is not for you if

  • You want the official exam or the certification itself (this is prep, not the cert)
  • You want a subscription app with gamified streaks
  • You expect a guaranteed pass (no honest product can promise that)
Questions

EPA 608 exam, answered

Is the EPA 608 exam hard?
It is not mechanically difficult, it is a recall test. Most people who fail mix up the recovery rules and pressure ranges across Type I, II, and III, or they underestimate Core. Structured practice with cited answers is what moves the pass rate.
What is on the Universal exam?
Four sections of 25 questions each: Core, Type I (small appliances), Type II (high pressure), and Type III (low pressure), for 100 questions total. Core is mandatory, and an open book Core does not count toward Universal.
What is the passing score?
Appendix D to 40 CFR Part 82 sets 70 percent for the closed book sections and 84 percent for the open book Type I mail in option. The closed book sections are commonly administered as 18 of 25 correct, which is 72 percent.
Are the questions current for 2026?
Yes. The material covers the AIM Act HFC phasedown (85 percent reduction by 2036), the 2025 sector GWP limits, A2L refrigerants such as R-32 and R-454B, and R-22 reclaim only status. Older guides predate most of this.
Is there a Spanish version?
Yes. The full kit is also available in Spanish, with the same content built to the EPA's Spanish exam terminology. Ask or check the product page for the Spanish edition.
Is this official?
No. It is an independent, unofficial study aid, not affiliated with or endorsed by the EPA or any certifying organization. It does not include or grant certification. All questions are original and written to the public regulation.
How do I get the file?
The free sampler arrives by email as a PDF. The full kit is an instant download you receive immediately after purchase. Both are yours to keep and print.
